Catherine Hardwicke to Direct Jerry Spinelli’s Stargirl

41m63Y0KeoLThe last time director Cathereine Hardwicke got her hands on a YA script, a phenomenon was born with her vision for the adpatation of Twilight. This time she’s taking the helm of Jerry Spinelli’s Stargirl.

The beloved book follows a homeschooled girl who enrolls at Mica High School and becomes a spectacle thanks to her “burst of color and sound”… until the students turn against her for being unique.

According to Variety, Hardwicke “was quick to sign on for the project after reading [Kristin] Hahn’s script.”

Stargirl has been a huge hit since 2000 (It’s currently #1 on Amazon’s “Children’s Peer Pressure Books” list). A sequel was published in 2007 titled Love, Stargirl.

She’s as magical as the desert sky. As mysterious as her own name. Nobody knows who she is or where she’s from. But everyone loves her for being different. And she captures Leo’s heart with just one smile. STARGIRL is a classic of our time that celebrates being true to ourselves and the thrill of first love. A life-changing read that touches souls of all ages.
