Michael Crichton’s Thriller Micro is Heading to the Big Screen

It won’t be the first time one of Michael Crichton’s novels have made it to the big screen with DreamWorks Studios following the success of Jurassic Park in the 1990’s. Now the studio have acquired the rights to Crichton’s 2011 high concept thriller Micro. Frank Marshall is set to produce, with Sherri Crichton and Laurent Bouzereau as executive producers for CrichtonSun LLC.

DreamWorks and Crichton have a special connection that goes back more than 20 years to when co-founder Steven Spielberg first adapted Crichton’s Jurassic Park. In 2009 DreamWorks also acquired the rights to the authors posthumously published novel Pirate Latitudes.

We are so pleased to have this opportunity to develop Micro. For Michael, size did matter, whether it was for Jurassic’s huge dinosaurs or Micro’s infinitely tiny humans. – Steven Spielberg

Micro like Pirate Latitudes was unfinished when Michael Crichton died in 2008, but was later completed by author Richard Preston and published by HarperCollins in 2011.

Michael Crichton’s vast body of work has thrilled audiences around the world for decades, and it feels particularly poignant to be bringing his last published novel to DreamWorks. This is the perfect place to unite these two dynamic brands. – Michael Wright (DreamWorks CEO)
