James Bond: The Musical on the Cards
We had a bit of a giggle over this story. It seems that they’ll turn anything into a musical nowadays. The latest book to be played out to song is 007! We aren’t quite sure how we feel about this and can’t imagine the British agent bursting out into song everytime he shoots the bad guy (although we’re sure Fleming’s legendary character felt like it).
Here’s what Playbill had to say about it –
Executive producer Merry Saltzman (daughter of legendary Bond film producer and impresario Harry Saltzman) told Playbill.com that her company, Placeholder Productions, had secured the rights to mount a stage show. She said the show, concisely titled James Bond: The Musical, will have a book by novelist Dave Clarke (“Keeping Hannah Waiting”), and music and lyrics by country composer Jay Henry Weisz (“Driving Home,” “Only One,” “Man in the Bar,” “The Fight”).
In other 007 news, odds on who will play the next James Bond after Daniel Craig have been slashed in favour of Damian Lewis. Variety reports –
Odds on the former “Homeland” star stepping into Daniel Craig’s shoes have tightened from 25/1 to 3/1, according to Britain’s biggest bookmaker William Hill. The bookie’s favorite remains former “The Wire” and “Luther” star Idris Elba, who is 5/2. Other actors in the running include Tom Hardy (4/1), Henry Cavill (5/1), Michael Fassbender (7/1) and Orlando Bloom (12/1). The odds that “Spectre” will be Craig’s last appearance as Bond are 10/1.
“This is an unprecedented gamble, as for no apparent reason we have seen bets of up to £200 ($312) on Damian Lewis being named as the next Bond. This could well be significant and might herald the end of Daniel Craig as the world’s most famous spy,” William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said.
How do you feel about a singing James Bond? And who gets your vote to play Bond in the future?
Spectre hits cinemas in November.
