Edgar Allan Poe’s Works Brought to Life in Animated Film Anthology Extraordinary Tales
American distributor GKIDS have bought the right to Extraordinary Tales for North America. The animated film anthology based on five of Edgar Allan Poe’s stories including The Tell-Tale Heart, The Pit and the Pendulum, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Facts in the Case of Mr. Valdemar and The Masque of the Red Death will feature the voices of the late Christopher Lee, Bela Lugosi, Julian Sands, Roger Corman and Guillermo del Toro.
Five stories of Edgar Allan Poe, each crafted in a graphic design style uniquely suited to the individual segments and inspired by visual artists and illustrators, whose style best expresses the psychological depth and complexity of Poe’s dark universe. The animation styles and techniques used for each segment vary with the graphic styles as we use textures, rendering techniques, colorization, and mixtures of 2D and 3D backgrounds with 3D animation to uniquely express the psychological adventures of Poe’s characters as they twist and turn in the darkest crevices of his tortured imagination.
Directed and co-produced by Raúl García, and produced by Stephen Roelants with additional co-producers Rocio Ayuso, Serge Ume and Isabelle Truc. Extraordinary Tales have been screening throughout last week at the Annecy International Film Festival and GKIDS are now planning a release in cinemas and video on demand on 30th October in the US with details for UK release yet to be given.
