It’s Official! Eddie Redmayne Confirmed to Star as Newt Scamander
After months of rumour and speculation, Warner Brothers have confirmed that Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne will star in the adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter spin off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
According to the official press release, the Theory of Everything star will play Newt Scamander, the magizoologist “who in his travels has encountered and documented a myriad of magical creatures, ultimately leading his penning the Hogwarts School textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” The story takes place in New York roughly 70 years before the start of Harry Potter.

Pictures. “We are thrilled to welcome him into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, where we know he will deliver a remarkable performance as Newt Scamander, the central character in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
David Yates, who directed the final four Potter movies, will take the helm of Fantastic Beasts which is set to start filming in Lodon this summer. About Redmayne he said, he “couldn’t be more excited about the prospect of working with [Redmayne]”. “Eddie is a fearless actor, brimming with invention, wit and humanity.”
Saoirse Ronan, Dakota Fanning, Lili Simmons and Alison Sudol are up for the role of Queenie, while Kate Upton, Katherine Waterston and Elizabeth Debicki are being eyed to play Queenie’s older sister, Tina, according to The Wrap
