EveryWhere Studios and the Gotham Group to Produce Sharon Draper’s Out of My Mind
EveryWhere Studios and the Gotham Group have come together to produce a movie adaptation of Sharon Draper’s YA novel Out of My Mind.
Out of My Mind was recently named one of Time magazine’s 100 Best Young Adult Books of All Time and has sold more than 1.5 million copies.
Starlight Children’s Foundation, founded by Steven Spielberg is to be an adviser and promotional partner for the movie.
Jacquie Hart, Starlight Global CEO, said
“The story’s main character is authentic, candid and compelling and reminds us of the quiet strength, fortitude and gifts of every child living with a chronic condition, and their vital role as members of our families, schools and global community”
Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein is also a producer on the upcoming The Scorch Trials.
Melody is not like most people. She cannot walk or talk, but she has a photographic memory; she can remember every detail of everything she has ever experienced.
She is smarter than most of the adults who try to diagnose her and smarter than her classmates in her integrated classroom – the very same classmates who dismiss her as mentally challenged, because she cannot tell them otherwise.
But Melody refuses to be defined by cerebral palsy. And she’s determined to let everyone know it – somehow.
In this breakthrough story, reminiscent of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, from multiple Coretta Scott King Award-winner Sharon Draper, readers will come to know a brilliant mind and a brave spirit who will change forever how they look at anyone with a disability.
