The Selection by Kiera Cass Optioned by Warner Bros
The Selection by Kiera Cass has come up a lot over at Beyond Books – The Book Club, its definitely a reader favourite and one the book club voted for as a Book We Would Love to See Adapted for the Big Screen. We are happy to announce that Warner Bros. have purchased the rights to Cass’ global bestseller. The Selection is the first of a five novel series of the same name and has sold 3.5 million copies worldwide. Katie Lovejoy (The Arsonist Love Story) is set to adapt the script, with Denise DiNovi, Alison Greenspan and Pouya Shahbazian producing. In the past CW optioned the rights for Cass’ novel with the intent of adapting it for television, in 2012 the initial pilot was shot but not picked up for a series and again in 2013 a second pilot was ordered but was later not picked up by the network. With a lot of young adult books being optioned for film over the last few years this could be the time for The Selection to come to life.
For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn’t want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she’s made for herself–and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.
