Amazon Secures Rights to Outlander Series in the UK from March 26th
Based on the ever popular book series by Dian Gabaldon, fans over the pond have already enjoyed the first half of season one of the ‘Starz’ adaptation. It’s been a long wait for us in blighty despite it’s huge fanbase here and a production base in Scotland, but at last we can tell you that the show will be available on Amazon Prime Instant Video from March 26th. The first 8 episodes will air weekly with the remaining starting on April 5th just hours after they air in the US.
Amazon acquired Outlander in a deal with Sony Pictures Television; the pact also covers future seasons. Season 2 begins shooting this summer in Scotland, where the series is able to take advantage of the UK’s lucrative tax breaks for hour-long productions.
Executive produced by Ron Moore and based on the best-selling books by Diana Gabaldon, Outlander follows the story of Claire (Caitriona Balfe), a married World War II nurse who is thrown back in time from 1945 into an unknown world, set in 1743. It’s produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining and Supply Company and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television.
