‘Shannara’ Set for TV Adaptation in Auckland!
There’s a big boost ahead for New Zealand’s film and television industry. MTV Networks and Sonar Entertainment are set to film the TV adaptation of the classic fantasy adventure book series “Shannara” at Auckland Film Studios Limited and various locations throughout the beautiful lands of New Zealand.
The show, based on the series of cult fantasy books by author Terry Brooks is said to begin pre-production this month with filming set to commence in February 2015.
Auckland Council’s Economic Development Committee welcome the decision and say it will reinforce New Zealand’s position as a go-to destination for quality film and television production, increase Auckland’s profile and showcase the city’s world-class facilities and locations.
“The agreement underlines the value Auckland Film Studios brings to a modern, vibrant Auckland as it encourages creative industries and highlights the city’s capability to deliver high quality, Auckland-made productions to the world,”
Known names for the series so far are Spanish actress Ivana Baquero and ‘Arrow’ actor, Manu Bennett. Other actors listed for roles are Austin Butler and Poppy Drayton.
Baquero will play Eretria, a human described as being from from the wrong side of the tracks. Raised by a group of thieves called The Rovers, she has had to use her good looks to survive. After rescuing Wil (Butler) from danger, she stumbles into being part of Amberle’s (Drayton) journey to save the Four Lands.
