Scarlett Johansson Confirmed Role in Ghost in the Shell Adaptation
Last year we posted regarding Scarlett Johansson being offered the starring role in the adaptation of Japanese manga Ghost in the Shell as Major Motoko Kusangi. Well it has now been confirmed that Johansson is set to star in the Dreamworks’ action film adaptation.
Created by Masamune Shirow and serialized in 1989, Ghost in the Shell follows the story of Motoko Kusanagi, a member of a covert counter cyber-terrorist organization, which specializes in fighting technology-related crime in mid-21st century Japan. The series was previously adapted into an animated film of the same name in 1995 with an animated sequel in 2004.
Snow White and the Huntsman’s Rupert Sanders is set to direct with a script by Bill Wheeler. Avi Arad and Steven Paul are producing with Mark Sourian executive producing.
