Star Studded Casting Complete for TV Adaptation of ‘War and Peace’
The casting for the epic six part BBC drama is now complete. The adaptation will star Paul Dano (“12 Years A Slave”), Lily James (“Downton Abbey”) and James Norton (“Belle”). Dano will play Pierre Bezukhov. James will play Natasha Rostova. And Norton will play Prince Andrei Bolkonsky.
Joining the main cast are Stephen Rea, Ade Edmondson, Jack Lowden, Greta Scacchi and Tom Burke.
Filming on the adaptation will begin in January. Shooting locations include Latvia, Lithuania and Russia.
Harvey Weinsten said in a statement, “I fell in love with Tolstoy’s ‘War and Peace’ as a teenager when I read it for the first time. Putting an epic, iconic story like ‘War and Peace’ on screen with a cast of this caliber is an incredible thrill. Lily, Paul and James are all amazingly talented actors, and it takes their level of talent to capture the scale of Tolstoy’s words.”
Davies added, “When I came to ‘War and Peace’ for the fist time, rather late in life, I was struck by how fresh and modern the characters and relationships felt. It’s a story of the hopes and dreams of youth, set against the titanic background of the Napoleonic Wars.”
“War and Peace” was first published in 1869. It is regarded one of the most important works of literature in history. It is also considered Tolstoy’s greatest work; he is widely known for it, as well as for “Anna Karenina.” The plot follows the lives and loves of five aristocratic Russian families as they react to the French invasion of Russia. The book is epic in scale and numbers more than 1,000 pages in length.
There is no information yet on when the adaptation will premiere on television.
