Hear Billy Boyd’s ‘The Last Goodbye’ for ‘The Hobbit’ Finale’s End Credits
The Lord of the Rings actor Billy Boyd’s song for The Hobbit finale’s end credits, titled “The Last Goodbye,” has hit the internet.
A lengthy preview of the song was released by the record label on Wednesday.
“The Last Goodbye” is a soft and uplifting acoustic tune that may make fans shed a few tears when the credits begin to roll in December.
In a press release, Boyd spoke about what the song means for the end of the series. “I wanted the song to be a goodbye to all the fans who have been part of this amazing journey and to the whole world of Tolkien as it has been told in the cinema for our generation,” he said. “No one knows the world of Tolkien better than Peter, Fran and Philippa, and I feel incredibly touched and honoured to be asked to write and perform this song, and to be at the start and end of these beautiful, historic stories. To once again work so closely with them has been one of the true honours of my working life.”
Fans were excited to learn last month that the actor who played Pippin in Peter Jackson’s Middle Earth trilogy would appear (with his voice) in The Battle of the Five Armies, but isn’t the first time Boyd has performed a song for the Middle Earth world. He sang “Edge of Night” for The Lord of the Rings finale The Return of the King.
