Welcome to a new monthly feature with us at Beyond Book. If you’re as crazy about books as we are these events are a must, and with every good book release, comes the author and his or her autograph!
A signed copy of our new favourite books become a wonderful keep sake not to mention the memory of the encounter with that author. So every month, we plan to bring you information of the book signings we think you’d like to know about.

We are delighted to welcome local author A.F. Harrold and award-winning illustrator Emily Gravett as they launch their new children’s book ‘The Imaginary’, followed by a book signing. Brilliantly funny, scary and moving, this beautiful book is astoundingly illustrated with integrated art and colour spreads by Emily. Meet Ashley and Emily, enjoy the refreshments and find out if a boy who isn’t there can survive without a friend to dream him up.

Waterstones Birmingham High Street – Author event and illustration workshop. Simon Morse.
Monster School for Ghosts and Ghouls.
Simon will be reading his book to all the visiting children, as well as showing them how to draw one of the characters. You will have an opportunity to purchase a signed copy of Monster School for Ghosts and Ghouls (aimed at 3-5 but all ages welcome). Go along dressed in your best Halloween costume!

Funnybones.Calling all little ghosties and ghoulies! We’re having a spooky story time this week with the ever popular Funnybones by picturebook stalwarts Janet and Alan Ahlberg. We’re also be making our very own light-up ghosts to take home too so come along and join in (if you’re brave enough!)

Rachel Caine’s second stop on her short book tour. Join her in the Young Adult department as the author of the bestselling Morganville Vampires series discusses the series, her success and more (including the upcoming digital TV series). After the talk there will be a Q&A and signing session.
A fantastic opportunity to meet three incredible UK YA authors! James Dawson is the reigning Queen of Teen, author of several books including Say Her Name and This Book is Gay. Holly Bourne is the author of Soulmates & The Manifesto on How to be Interesting, and Non Pratt’s debut
novel is Trouble. We will host a Q&A, then allow the audience to ask questions, followed by the chance to buy the authors’ books and get them all signed. What more could you wantfor a bookish evening out?!

The Soul of Discretion: Simon Serrailler Book 8
Join the on Halloween as Susan Hill, author of ‘The Woman in Black’ talks about writing, and eighth book in the brilliant Simon Serrailler series ‘The Soul of Discretion’. Susan has won the Somerset Maugham and Whitbread prizes for her writing and been shortlisted for the Booker prize as well as being awarded a CBE in 2012 for her services to literature. This will be a rare opportunity to meet a master storyteller and will be followed by a Q & A and book signing.

Waterstones Belfast Fountain – Halloween poetry and flash fiction event.
The Penguin Complete Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe
Kick off your Halloween celebrations with another classic Waterstones early evening event. At 6pm on Friday 31st Oct there will be an in store open mic poetry and flash fiction competition. Free refreshments. Normal dress optional.
To round off half term and Halloween, lots of stores have got some fantastic activities if you have little ones at home!

Waterstones Bluewater West – Monster Love Underpants Fun Day!
Come along and meet the hilariously hairy Monster from the best-selling underpants book series. We’ll have activities throughout the afternoon and there will be a ‘Design Your Own Pants’ competition with some very special prizes. Optional monster/halloween attire is most welcome!
