Divergent Exclusive First Clip: Tattoos and other Divergent News

Firstly Yahoo Movies have released the very first clip from Divergent titled “Tattoos”. I’ve got to say I’ve watched the clip a few times now and I won’t be getting bored of it any time soon. There are also a few extra updates that are added to this post after the clip below.

To start two movie tie-in covers for both the UK and US have now been released. The movie tie-in is set to be released February 11th 2014. Here in the UK we have the same US cover available for pre-order on  Amazon.co.uk however the UK cover has yet to be added and made available for pre-order. (Tie-in covers added to the gallery at the end of the post)

Summit have also announced a 2016 release date for Allegiant:

Summit has confirmed that the third and final book in Veronica Roth’s Divergent trilogy titled Allegiant is set for a March 18, 2016 theatrical release.

It’s worth noting that this is not Allegiant, Part 1. In other words, there are no plans (right now) to split the final book into two movies like they and parent studio Lionsgate did for YA titans Twilight and The Hunger Games.

A release date for the Allegiant movie shows the studio’s confidence in the first movie being a hit when it arrives in theaters early next year. It stars Shailene Woodley as Tris and Theo James as Four.

Divergent will hit theaters March 21, 2014, and Insurgent is set for March 20, 2015. Brian Duffield is currently writing the screenplay for the latter.

The Allegiant book was released in October and made waves in the literature community because of its surprise ending. Earlier today we reported that the book was Amazon’s best selling kids/teens novel of 2013.

In an exclusive on Variety, it has been revealed that Divergent director, Neil Burger, will not be returning as director for Insurgent, but he will be returning as Executive Producer.

“Divergent” director Neil Burger will not helm “Insurgent,” the second title in Lionsgate’s upcoming young-adult franchise, and the studio has set the sequel for a March 20, 2015, release.

Burger is currently in post-production for “Divergent,” starring Shailene Woodley, for a March 21, 2014, release and Lionsgate is currently seeking another director for “Insurgent.”

The March, 2015, release date requires that production start this spring. Lionsgate also announced Monday that the third film, “Allegiant,” will be released a year later on March 18, 2016.

Summit has issued a statement saying that scheduling issues have precluded Burger from directing “Insurgent”:

Neil Burger is a rock star and he is doing a fantastic job on Divergent.  We can’t wait for you to see the film.  But as amazing as Neil is he still cannot be in two places at once and thus needs to finish post production on Divergent while we gear up to start production on Insurgent.  So, although Neil will continue on as part of our Divergent family as an executive producer, we sadly have to find another director for the next chapter in Veronica Roth’s fantastic series.

A new HQ still of Tris and Four has also been revealed. We have seen part of the shot during the trailer and also another still from another angle.
