The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – Film Review
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is the epic second instalment of The Hobbit trilogy, continuing Bilbo Baggins journey alongside Thorin, Gandalf and the thirteen Dwarves!
Peter Jackson and his film team have created yet another outstanding piece of work! Throughout the film, we see the vast amount of amazing effects, costumes, make-up, props (and dragon!), used to complete this following stage of the unfolding story.
In The Desolation of Smaug, we see the return of great characters on their adventure towards the Lonely Mountain, seeing appearances from Stephen Fry (as Master of Laketown) and Sylvester McCoy (as Radagast).
There are many brilliant parts throughout the entire film, always keeping you on the edge of your seat to see what happens next, but the introduction to Smaug is one of the most memorable scenes, for me, from the film. The set up of Erebor, Smaug’s lair, is quite amazing- the sheer scale and detail created is undoubtedly impressive- just wait until you see it!
Orlando Bloom (Legolas), Evangeline Lilly (Tauriel), Luke Evans (Bard the Bowman), Lee Pace (Thranduil) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Smaug/Necromancer) are just a few to name, of the growing talent joining the cast of the Hobbit.
Ian McKellen (Gandalf the Grey), Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins) and Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakenshield) returned well, developing the story further, bringing us closer to the grand conclusion that’s due out next winter, The Hobbit: There and Back Again.
In all honesty- it’s made me want to go and grab the book to start reading!
Overall, an amazing piece of film work- a must see!
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug reaches UK cinemas this Friday 13th December 2013.
